Teeth Whitening in San Diego: ADA Creates New Teeth Whitening Standard

Teeth whitening products are now more popular than ever. From over-the-counter whiteners to bleaching services provided by a local Encinitas dentist, more and more people are using these products to help them achieve shiny white teeth. With teeth whitening’s ever-growing popularity, the American Dental Association felt the need to develop a new safety standard for these bleaching agents, to ensure the better protection of the public who use them.

In January 2016, the ADA approved ANSI/ADA Standard No. 136, a standard that defines the requirements that must be met and the test methods that must be undertaken before a chemical teeth bleaching product can be deemed fit for use. The standard was developed by various dental professionals, researchers, manufacturers, and experts in the field of dentistry. Some of these professionals came from the ADA Laboratories itself.
